A reported Little Bunting on the island of Texel is missing on the year list. In addition, there are a few species that count for the month list. Pieter also misses the bird so a day to Texel was agreed. At 7.15 am we agreed at a car park near Amsterdam and 8.30 am we were on the first ferry to Texel.

Migration counting at Westkapelle

Yesterday good numbers of birds flew along the migration sites at sea. The forecast today is northwestern strength 4, this is actually not hard enough. However, we make an attempt, and there are enough other options in Zeeland. At 6 o'clock I agree with the family Doorn at a parking lot in the town Made.

Barred Warbler on Texel, year species number 300!

Yesterday my year list increased with a Crossbill and a Zitting Cisticola to 299 species. On the island of Texel yesterday there were 9 Barred Warblers reported and I still miss this species on the year list. A good chance today to get the 300 announced itself. Together with Pieter Doorn & Maartje I sat on the first boat at half past seven to Texel. There was a beautiful day predicted what weather is concerned and when we stood on the deck we witnessed a beautiful sunrise.

Long-tailed Jaeger & Balearic Shearwaters at Westkapelle

On the Bird Fair in the Stand of Dutch Birding I met Pieter & Maartje. After a short chat came the question: is there a chance tomorrow for a Long-tailed Jaeger? I replied that Texel might be a good option, and we agreed that the next day we would have a go. Shortly thereafter I met Pim Wolf who confidently announced to that in Westkapelle there was more than a 50% chance. The destination was therefore modified in Westkapelle and we agreed at 5.30 am at a parking lot in Made the next day.

Birding with tropical temperatures

It was a hot day forecast, even one that could break a record. In the Lauwersmeer this week there were many nice species seen so we choose to go north. At 4:30 am my alarm clock went off and fifteen minutes later I was in the car on the way to Wageningen to pick up Thijs. The thermometer in the car was already at 20 degrees. From Thijs we drove to Huizen, with the usual coffee stop en route, and picked up Peter & Maartje Doorn. With four we drove on and the first stop was the Ezumakeeg.

Thick-billed Murre Lifer 400!!

Saturday evening there will were some late reports threw waarneming.nl. While I am lying on the couch looking at the TV I check the emails. In general it are the known species and a sighting of a Thick-billed Murre in the harbour at Lauwersoog. Oh, I think, it will be an input error. Not much later Thijs whatappt and reports that the photos look good?! I quickly check the internet and the pictures I find speak for themselves. I call Thijs and after a short conversation we agreed to leave at 4.30 in the morning.

In the northern Netherlands the most fun species were to be seen so a day was planned. Together with Pieter & Maartje van Doorn we left at 5.30 am from Huizen.

A day of month listing
- Details
A new month has begun so a day of month listing was planned. A possible list of species was established (Common Merganser, Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser, European European Shag and Iceland Gull) and together with Thijs we left around 6 am from Wageningen.
